Mission Statement
It is our mission to effectively educate all students to achieve high levels of academic performance and foster a positive school experience.

Vision
Staff and parents supporting all students' learning styles, by instilling ownership in all aspects of their learning environment.

Supporting:
• Building Confidence
• Creativity
• Enjoyment of learning

Parent Involvement

Parents count! Come to school, meet us, talk to us, attend PTC. meetings, and volunteer your time and energy. Your involvement will show your children that you value their education. We look forward to working with you this year.

Special Programs:

Lunch Buddy
This program pairs a student with an adult mentor that eats lunch and spends time with a student once a week. The modeling and support that occurs for the individual students is proven to build self esteem.

Partners in Print
This program teaches parents how to best support their beginning reader at home.

S.M.A.R.T. (Start Making A Reader Today)
The SMART Reading program helps kids become confident readers by providing individual volunteer attention and new, take-home books. The student reads to an adult mentor for 30 minutes once or twice a week to improve reading fluency and comprehension. If you would like to volunteer with SMART and support the students here at Oakdale, please click on the link and complete the online application.

T.E.A.M. Time (Together Everyone Achieves More)
Students in Grades K through 3 meet from 8:00 - 8:15 on Monday and Friday for fitness and movement activities. What a great way to start the day!

Supporting Students:

Academic Interventions
Each student, grades Kindergarten through 3rd Grade, are assessed in the area of reading, writing and math. We use these assessments to identify the individual needs of students. Student needs are then discussed in grade lever Professional Learning Communities (PLC) on a monthly basis. From there student interventions are put in place to support those needs of students. We have tiers of support for students. The first Tier of Interventions takes place in the classroom and provided by teachers and support staff. The second and third tier of support is provided in pullout model and provided by a reading specialist and other support staff. This is an additional layer of support for students.

Along with school supporters, we have become a SMART school which works with volunteers across the community to help students in the area of reading.

If you are interested in finding ways to support our students, please contact the office to find ways you can help.

  Behavioral Interventions
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support: PBIS

PBIS is a school-wide initiative to help build capacity for identifying, adapting and sustaining effective disciplinary practices. We emphasize school safety, being respectful and being responsible. During the school year we look for students who are being safe, respectful and responsible and find ways to encourage these behaviors.

To support our PBIS initiative, our school counselor goes into class once a week to teach lessons on respectful and responsible behavior, as well as teachers teaching lessons to support the desired student outcomes.

Bond Updates:

In 2009, the Dallas School District passed a construction bond that has been used to improve the buildings across the district. Because of this bond, we have had some significant improvements to Oakdale. The biggest change was the addition of a new parking lot on the east side of the gym. With the new parking lot, we have doubled the amount of parking spaces available to staff and school patrons. A new student drop-off and pick-up area was also constructed to help improve student safety and flow of traffic.

Other changes to our building have been improvements to the existing heating system, replacement of our old fire alarm system and major roof repairs over the gym.

Thank you to the Dallas community for your continued support of our schools!
